Over the course, you’ll learn the core domestic gas requirements through a mix of engaging theory sessions and practical and real-world training on site with a Gas Safe Engineer. You will gain the confidence to work safely, correctly, and in line with industry standards—setting you up for future assessments and Gas Safe registration.

This programme is ideal if you are:

Our Gas Foundation Managed Learning Programme (MLP) is a structured training route designed for new entrants to the gas industry, fully compliant with IGEM/G1 Supplements 2 & 3. It gives you the guided learning hours, practical skills, and work experience you need to launch your career.

We offer this course as face-to-face learning at our centre near Brighton to ensure you receive the most direct training and support from our delivery team, along with plenty of opportunities to engage in technical discussions and ask questions throughout the course.

Before starting, every learner completes an initial skills and knowledge assessment, allowing us to tailor our support and help you succeed.

  • Candidates must be 18 or older
  • Evidence of previous qualification such as plumbing or mechanical services or indsutry experience
  • You can meet the portfolio requirements by working with a Gas Safe Engineer

As part of the Managed Learning Program, you’ll be required to work with a mentor — a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer — to gain valuable on-the-job experience. This hands-on training ensures you develop the practical skills and confidence to work safely and competently in the gas industry. The Gas Engineer should work as a mentor to support you completing your portfolio evidence.

Upon completion of meeting the training hour requirements, and ensuring the assessment portfolio and all evidence is sufficient, a training completion certificate will be issued. This certificate will enable the learner to book and undertake their CCN1 ACS initial, covering the areas they have completed within their managed learning program.

On completion of the Gas Foundation Managed Learning programme course and upon receiving your certificate, you can apply to sit your ACS assessments. This is a separate training and assessment to the Gas Foundation Managed Learning programme course and can be booked online by selecting a course date which is most suitable for you. Course Requirements: 

  • Over 18  
  • The LCL Awards Managed Learning Programme is designed for both new entrant learners into the gas industry and those who claim to have some prior experience and knowledge of the Building Engineering Services industry sector.

  • All learners applying for the MLP will undertake an initial assessment of their learning needs to ensure that they are able to complete the program and progress to ACS assessment.  

  • All learners will be required to access ‘on the job’ gas work experience, gained whilst under the supervision of a registered gas installer, acting as the candidates mentor.
